Be like water
"Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” -Brene Brown.
I used to think that having inner strength meant being like an unyielding rock that was unaffected by life's challenges. I was incredibly ashamed of being an emotional person and wished I was less feeling. However, after engaging in years of personal psychotherapy and embarking on my own healing journey, I've come to embrace my inner strength and see myself more like water. Water can carve its way even through stone, and when trapped, water makes a new path. This is what makes me strong, strong enough to feel deeply and love fearlessly.
In the ocean of my soul I embrace all currents by allowing my feelings to flow within and past me. Sometimes, feelings act as messages from our inner selves and have the potential to teach us valuable lessons when they are felt and processed - some emotions are pointing to a problem within us or a problem we need to resolve with others. Through practice, processing emotions is what helps us move forward and grow.
I am just as much as the ocean's darkest depths as I am it's glistening surface. There are no good or bad emotions, just easier and more challenging ones to deal with. May what I do flow like an unapologetic, impassioned river - ceaselessly coursing, ebbing, nourishing and soothing.
